UKanTeach is an innovative teacher preparation program for students interested in obtaining a teaching license secondary (grades 6-12) in addition to their regular STEM degree. UKanTeach is a collaborative program of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the School of Education that prepares and supports secondary mathematics and science teachers at the University of Kansas. The UKanTeach certificate program is designed to be completed along with an approved BS or BA degree to fulfill the requirements necessary for the UKanTeach Certificate in your desired area of licensure: mathematics, biology, chemistry, earth and space science, or physics.
Students who complete UKanTeach coursework and pass both the state’s licensure examinations and the PRAXIS II subject examination meet Kansas licensure requirements for secondary educators. The website will answer many of your licensure questions.
UKanTeach invites all KU students to explore their interest in teaching by taking the first one-hour UKanTeach course (LA&S 290). Freshmen through seniors are eligible to enroll. Through coursework and classroom experiences, students learn quickly whether they are suited to the profession of teaching.
