27 hours of teacher development coursework in mathematics/science education
Recruiting early and often:
Visits to KU mathematics and science classes
Letters to incoming freshman and transfer students
Emails to mathematics and science majors
Early Field Experience:
First UKanTeach Course—students teach lessons in grades 3-6
Second UKanTeach Course—students teach lessons in grades 7-8
Subsequent courses—students teach lessons in grades 9-12
Master teachers available as faculty & advisors for UKanTeach students
Internships and scholarships available for UKanTeach students
New professional development courses designed for future math and science teachers
Induction support for new teachers to help insure success
Master’s degree program encouraged soon after graduation
The first one-hour course is offered each semester. During this course, students teach three
hands-on inquiry-based science/mathematics lessons in local schools.
